Position Overview:

As an integral part of the healthcare team, and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Cardiac Monitoring Specialist is chiefly responsible for the observation, analysis, and assessment of displayed cardiac rhythms. This role entails promptly and accurately reporting any abnormalities from the established baseline.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurately monitors cardiac rhythms.
  • Maintains constant vigilance at the monitoring station, except during breaks or when alternative coverage is arranged.
  • Observes and swiftly reports any deviations in rhythms from the baseline to the designated RN.
  • Assists in recognizing patient issues related to Telemetry monitoring.
  • Records and communicates data to the Registered Nurse.
  • Documents monitor strips on the appropriate flow sheet for the Registered Nurse's review.
  • Assists in identifying necessary supplies and equipment for Telemetry monitoring.
  • Performs additional related duties as required.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience required.
  • Current employees may have this experience requirement waived.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an EKG interpretation course approved by the Employer is mandatory.
Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Additional Skills:
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Ability to accurately detect and differentiate abnormal cardiac rhythms, demonstrated by passing a standardized cardiac monitoring/EKG test administered on-site.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative Labor Management Partnership environment.
  • Refer to the Position Specifications outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clerical experience is advantageous.
  • Cardiac monitoring/EKG certification is preferred.
