Transportation Operator

Make a significant impact with SIRS, Inc. by facilitating Medicaid transportation for individuals with disabilities in your area.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive a vehicle to provide public transit services while adhering to all relevant DOT, federal, state, local, and organizational regulations, ensuring the safe and punctual transport of all passengers.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking to guarantee their safety, including providing support during vehicle evacuations when necessary.
- Safely board and disembark passengers, including those utilizing wheelchairs or other mobility aids, using lift equipment and securement systems in accordance with established policies.
- Complete daily documentation with accuracy, including tracking attendance, maintaining daily logs, mileage records, fuel purchases, Medicaid Trip Forms, and maintenance logs.
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections using a checklist to confirm the vehicle's proper and safe operation, checking fluid levels, lights, tires, and mechanical components before starting the route.
- Regularly assess vehicle supplies and equipment; report restocking needs following the organization's procedures to ensure a safe and functional vehicle.
- Refuel the vehicle; ensure all systems are shut down properly; inspect the interior for any items left by passengers; secure the vehicle to maintain safety.
- Maintain cleanliness within the vehicle to provide a sanitary environment for passengers and ensure safe operations.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Participate in random drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Transportation Director under the DOT Drug Testing Program.
- Promptly report any mechanical issues to the Transportation Director or local support personnel.
- Notify the Transportation Director immediately of any delays in transporting individuals, whether departing or arriving.
- Inform the Transportation Director if client behaviors affect the safety of other passengers.
- Attend all required training sessions as directed by the Transportation Director.
- Maintain a good driving record that meets or exceeds the organization’s driver eligibility standards.
COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to determine the safest travel route to ensure timely passenger transportation.
- Ability to assess and decide on appropriate actions in situations that may pose safety risks.
- Effective communication skills, including:
- a. Strong verbal and written communication abilities;
- b. Proficiency in the English language; and
- c. Capability to communicate necessary actions to passengers in safety-related situations.
- Ability to comply with current traffic and driver safety regulations, as well as all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and organizational policies.
- Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn, understand, and follow all public transit routes and schedules.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Capability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull.
- Must assist passengers using wheelchairs.
- Must successfully complete a Fit for Duty physical, drug screening, and comprehensive background check.

EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred experience in public transportation: 1 year.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
- Driver's License (Required).
- CDL or Operator for Hire License (Preferred).
SIRS, Inc. is a qualifying organization under the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
