Job Overview: The role involves executing both structural and non-structural engineering designs, conducting data collection and analysis, performing flood modeling, and carrying out cost-benefit assessments for various water-related infrastructures such as waterways, pipelines, dams, dikes, culverts, and canals. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate field crew operations.
  • Provide expert consultation and guidance to project stakeholders and management regarding engineering specifications for the construction of diverse designs, modifications, and structural repairs.
  • Utilize design software and drafting tools to accurately depict and communicate engineering designs; plan and design other necessary systems and structures related to transportation or hydraulics.
  • Evaluate the integrity of construction materials through testing of materials and soil.
  • Establish design criteria by calculating load and grade requirements, material stress factors, water flow rates, and other relevant parameters.
  • Organize projects based on the analysis of pertinent materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, maps, and other geological and topographical data.
  • Prepare and present reports on project-related topics including environmental impact assessments and right-of-way descriptions.
  • Estimate the necessary materials, equipment, and labor to determine project costs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and contractors to ensure the proper progression of projects.
  • Work alongside surveyors (or lead and participate in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors influencing construction.
  • Monitor project advancement and ensure compliance with design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Upon project completion, inspect, repair, and maintain structures as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analysis software.
  • Skilled in HEC-RAS or similar simulation software utilized in computational fluid dynamics.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction, repair, or restoration of water-related infrastructures.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations pertinent to assigned projects.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity for both creative and analytical thinking.
  • Highly detail-oriented and precise.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a focus on Civil Engineering.
  • Licensure or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment is required.
Physical Demands:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Willingness to travel to various project sites.
  • Capability to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
