Job Overview: The Water Resource Engineer will be responsible for executing both structural and non-structural designs, conducting data collection and analysis, performing flood modeling, and executing cost-benefit analyses for various water-related infrastructures including waterways, pipelines, dams, dikes, culverts, and canals. Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate field crew operations.
  • Provide expert consultation and direction to project stakeholders and management regarding engineering specifications for construction, modifications, and structural repairs.
  • Utilize design software and drafting tools to effectively create and communicate engineering designs; also plan and design associated systems such as transportation or hydraulic systems.
  • Evaluate the integrity of construction materials through testing and analysis of soil and other materials.
  • Establish design specifications by calculating load and grade requirements, material stress factors, water flow rates, and other relevant parameters.
  • Plan and organize projects based on thorough analysis of materials including drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, maps, and other geological and topographical data.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on project-related topics such as environmental impact assessments and right-of-way documentation.
  • Estimate necessary materials, equipment, and labor to accurately assess project costs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and contractors to ensure projects are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Work alongside surveyors (or lead surveying efforts) to establish installation points, grades, elevations, and other critical factors impacting construction.
  • Monitor project development to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Upon project completion, conduct inspections, repairs, and maintenance of structures as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) and other relevant design, data recording, and analysis software.
  • Skilled in HEC-RAS or similar simulation software for computational fluid dynamics.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction, repair, or restoration of water-related infrastructures.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations pertinent to assigned projects.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to think both creatively and analytically.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, specifically in Civil Engineering.
  • Required licensure or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment.
Physical Demands:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Willingness to travel to various project sites as needed.
  • Capability to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
