This role is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) appointment and may be extended up to 24 months or transition into a permanent position.
If you possess permanent status and have successfully completed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position/classification at the conclusion of this LT appointment. If you do not have prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service. During this 12-month limited-term assignment, you may be eligible for health, dental, and vision benefits. Additionally, you will accrue monthly leave credits and earn State Service.
The State Air Resources Board is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and technically proficient individual with excellent communication skills to fill the Air Resources Technician II position within the Compliance Support Section of the Transportation and Clean Technology Branch. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team focused on developing and executing regulatory strategies and emission control measures aimed at reducing harmful criteria and greenhouse gas emissions from medium and heavy-duty on-road mobile sources. This includes support for the implementation of zero-emission regulations such as the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and the Advanced Clean Fleets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Air Pollution Specialists and Air Resources Engineers in responding to technical inquiries and daily communications to support the public with various medium and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicle programs.
- Review fleet surveys and registration databases to assess and determine fleet compliance.
- Compile and analyze emissions data to support regulatory efforts.
- Evaluate the availability and feasibility of advanced medium and heavy-duty vehicle propulsion technologies to mitigate emissions.
- Estimate costs and benefits associated with the operation and maintenance of advanced zero-emission technologies.
- Design, maintain, and update the program website.
- Prepare reports, factsheets, and other correspondence as necessary.
- Coordinate and participate in public workshops, meetings, and other outreach events.
- Perform administrative tasks as required, including photocopying and filing.
Working Conditions
Positions at the State Air Resources Board may be eligible for telework based on operational needs, subject to meeting the telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the designated headquarters location at their own expense.
- Requires prolonged periods in a stationary position, typical of office work.
- Standard office environment (e.g., artificial lighting, controlled temperature).
- Daily use of personal computers and office equipment.
- Position located in a high-rise building.
