Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Emergency Department, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients across all age groups. This role encompasses the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, adhering to the established policies and standards of Mount Desert Island Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver direct nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department.
2. Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans.
3. Implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient outcomes.

Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
1. Current RN license in Maine or eligibility through the Nursing License Compact.
2. Annual CPR certification; ACLS and PALS certifications every two years; TNCC every four years; ENPC encouraged.
3. Certification as an Emergency Nurse is preferred.
4. Participation in continuing education related to emergency or critical care nursing is required.

Experience:
1. Demonstrated proficiency in medication administration.
2. Experience in the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
3. Background in emergency or critical care nursing, with charge nurse experience preferred.

Special Skills:
1. Proficient IV skills.
2. Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records preferred.
3. Expertise in cardiac monitoring and ACLS provision for all age groups.
4. Proficient in trauma care for patients of all ages.

Cognitive Skills:
1. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to process and apply clinical information effectively in various settings.
3. Capacity to communicate complex clinical information to medical and nursing staff.
4. Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
5. Skill in data collection, sorting, and prioritization.
6. Willingness to learn and adapt new techniques in nursing practice.

Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during shifts.
2. Adequate hearing, vision, speech, and manual dexterity for patient communication and task completion.
3. General health sufficient to fulfill scheduled work hours.
4. Capability to lift and assist patients weighing 25-50 lbs.
