Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a Lead Wind Technician to be stationed at our operational site. This pivotal role is essential to our organization, and we pride ourselves on employing and nurturing the finest talent in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent role that offers substantial opportunities for career advancement. As the highest tier in the technician classification, this position involves leadership responsibilities within the wind sector. The incumbent will tackle intricate challenges, oversee operations, and guide team members in specialized technical areas with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise teams of technicians to fulfill operational duties.
  • Engage directly with clients as instructed by management.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members as directed.
  • Conduct operations, scheduled maintenance, and unscheduled repairs on substation equipment.
  • Diagnose warranty-related issues.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
  • Work according to the schedule and be available for on-call duties as necessary.
  • Serve as the acting manager when required.
  • Assist management with vendor contracts, landowner agreements, and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety awareness at all times.
  • Climb heights of 300 feet or more multiple times daily.
  • Identify and rectify faults in turbines related to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting to ascertain the root cause of issues and execute corrective measures or escalate to the equipment manufacturer.
  • Ensure energy isolation in line with Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  • Execute pad-mounted transformer switching in accordance with Hazardous Energy Control procedures.
  • Carry out corrective tasks on wind turbines as needed.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, performance monitoring, and evaluations.
  • Oversee all aspects of turbine maintenance (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain Environmental Health & Safety documentation and complete necessary paperwork within the management system.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • External candidates must possess a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience and pass required certifications within the probationary period.
  • Internal candidates should have at least 3 years of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician and have completed necessary certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or a related field.
  • Experience with Vestas turbines and various wind turbine technologies.
  • Knowledge of high voltage and substation maintenance.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing tools.
  • Understanding of heavy equipment maintenance and crane rigging requirements.
  • Proficient in management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • CPR and AED training certification.
  • Forklift certification.
Working Conditions:
  • Valid Driver's License is mandatory.
  • Travel to various project sites may be required.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and other hazards.
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions.
  • Must meet physical requirements, including the ability to lift 75 lbs and climb turbine towers up to 400 ft.
  • Completion of technical training programs is required.
  • Must pass background checks and pre-employment physical assessments.
