Job Description

Position Purpose: As a Veterinary Technician at Petco, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional veterinary care to our patients and delivering outstanding customer service to their owners.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia procedures
  • Provide patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle medications under the direction of the veterinarian
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, and relay test results to doctors and clients
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor vital parameters during anesthesia, and assist with recovery
  • Participate in the training of new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized hospital environment
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A college or equivalent education as required for becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located
  • At least one year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Compassion and sympathy, with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations
  • Telephone and computer skills
  • A team-player mentality, willing to learn new techniques and treatments, and adapt to change
