GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This role involves performing moderately complex licensing and permitting tasks within a Regional Operations office of the Driver License Division. Responsibilities include receiving and evaluating applications for licenses and permits, ensuring adherence to relevant policies, administrative codes, and statutes, and engaging with both external and internal stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interact with the public in a professional manner, addressing inquiries related to various types of driver licenses and identification cards, traffic laws, and departmental services.
  2. Assess the legal requirements for applicants and screen submissions to verify qualifications, approving applications based on state regulations and agency policies.
  3. Conduct evaluations of applicants' physical driving capabilities, identifying any potential restrictions and referring cases to appropriate specialists when necessary.
  4. Inspect vehicles for safety compliance prior to conducting road tests and verify financial responsibility and registration.
  5. Certify drivers as reasonable risks or disapprove those deemed unreasonable risks based on established criteria.
  6. Utilize external systems to verify applicants' eligibility for licensing and issue licenses and permits while ensuring accurate financial transactions.
  7. Maintain thorough records of applications, payments, and other necessary documentation within relevant databases.
  8. Advise applicants on the status of their licenses, including suspensions and cancellations, and provide guidance on how to qualify for reinstatement.
  9. Administer written and oral tests to applicants, ensuring compliance with testing standards and procedures.
  10. Prepare daily reports and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the work area.
  11. Provide administrative support and technical assistance regarding licensing and permit requirements to the public and agency staff.
  12. Participate in ongoing training and may be required to travel to various locations for work-related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: At least one year of experience in customer service or office administration. Cash handling experience is preferred.

Licensure: A valid driver license is required, with the necessity to obtain a Texas license within a specified timeframe if relocating.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and proficiency in technology and software applications are essential. Must demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive information responsibly.

This position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
