Job Summary

The City of Dania Beach, FL is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Code Compliance Officer to join our Community Development Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing compliance with the City's occupational license, public nuisance, land development, and housing codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate and perform proactive field investigations for non-compliance with or violations of City codes and ordinances.
  • Respond to and investigate code-related complaints from citizens, businesses, and staff in a manner that facilitates positive public relations.
  • Prepare and provide notice to violators specifying the violation and action to be taken to abate violation conditions.
  • Provide customer service and correspondence with violators, both verbally and in writing to provide information, respond to inquiries, and explain remedial action alternatives.
  • Document, record, and maintain detailed files on all case activity performed; monitor ongoing cases.
  • Review various records and documentation relating to code enforcement duties, e.g., property ownership, site plans, codes, ordinances.
  • Conduct appropriate research and draft reports, fact sheets, evaluations, conclusions, notices, and other documentation for presentation to the Special Magistrate.
  • Present case documentation/information and testify at Special Magistrate meetings regarding case facts, conditions, findings, and relevant code sections.
  • Re-inspect cases and determine if they are in compliance or if the case needs to be scheduled for Special Magistrate Hearing for non-compliance.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year vocational training or work experience in enforcement of zoning, building, land use, health, or licensing codes.
  • Level I Code Compliance Certification required within first year
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an overall good driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years vocational training or work experience in enforcement of zoning, building, land use, health, or licensing codes.
  • Level II Compliance certification
  • Previous experience testifying in public meetings
