About the Role

The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, building relationships with donors, and managing a team of development professionals. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic organization and make a meaningful impact in the lives of Richmond youth, adults, and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Donor Relations & Board Engagement: Manage a portfolio of 100 donors and funders, cultivate and solicit donations, and work closely with the Executive Director and Board to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Strategy & Capital Campaign: Develop and implement a fund development plan, create fundraising benchmarks, and oversee the successful implementation of the YES capital campaign.
  • Events & Appeals: Lead the visioning, strategy, and production of fundraising campaigns and in-person events, and identify and cultivate corporate sponsors.
  • Foundation, Corporate, and Government Grants: Direct institutional giving strategy, conduct outreach to new funders, and review and refine grant proposals and reports.
  • Communications & Brand Visibility: Support the Development and Communications Specialist in creating a communications plan, oversee donor stewardship communications, and elevate YES's profile and brand.
  • Organizational Leadership and Team Management: Supervise and manage a team of development professionals, engage in organization-wide activities, and participate in fundraising affinity/networking groups.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in nonprofit development leadership, with a focus on major gifts, event fundraising, and communications.
  • A proven track record of securing major gifts and meeting fundraising targets.
  • The ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including donors, board members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Commitment to asset-based fundraising that advances racial justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • At least two years of experience managing one or more staff.
