Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Field Civil Engineer to join our Chicago Office. This role presents an exciting opportunity to engage in construction projects that support our Transportation division. The primary focus will be on construction management, acting as an owner representative for various clients. The projects may encompass construction management for civil site elements on larger initiatives, as well as transportation projects including rural roadways, expressways, and bridges. Additionally, civil site work may involve power plants, substations, and various facility projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that contractor work adheres to the plans and specifications outlined in the contract documents.
- Identify and communicate any observed issues or problems to the project engineer or supervisor.
- Conduct field measurements and document pay quantities accurately.
- Prepare daily activity reports detailing the progress of the work.
- Assist the Resident Engineer with matters related to construction contract administration.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, plans, specifications, estimates, and change order requests.
- Expected to operate from project field offices or directly on-site.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant civil engineering experience; consulting experience is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing field engineering tasks related to the implementation of transportation and civil site design.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced construction environment and engaging with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, owners, utility entities, and commercial/residential interests.
- Preferred experience with relevant agencies, though other applicable experience will be considered.
- Self-motivated with the ability to develop innovative solutions to challenges.
- Progress toward obtaining a PE license is advantageous.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must meet the standards to qualify for and maintain the company's vehicle driving privileges as per the Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
