The Senior Wine Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing our guests' dining experience through expert wine selection and service. This position entails a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to, engaging with patrons on the restaurant floor, upholding the establishment's high standards, and collaborating with management to develop an exceptional beverage program that aligns with the Majordomo ethos.

As a leader in all beverage-related aspects, the Senior Wine Specialist will be instrumental in maintaining and evolving the beverage offerings. This individual will work closely with the General Manager, culinary team, and front-of-house managers to ensure the creative development and implementation of beverage standards. Key responsibilities include overseeing guest interactions regarding beverages, facilitating staff training, and ensuring the meticulous upkeep of our wine selections.

Compensation Rate: $20.00 (plus applicable tips)

Admin Compensation Rate: $25.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Beverage Director and General Manager to curate a wine program that elevates the guest experience.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving goods, and processing invoices under the guidance of the Beverage Director and General Manager.
  • Support the oversight of beverage costs and pricing strategies.
  • Train and mentor the Sommelier team in product knowledge and service excellence.
  • Conduct training sessions for the entire front-of-house team to enhance their beverage knowledge.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for wine service.
  • Oversee wine inventory management and event depletions.
  • Maintain the physical wine book and ensure proper organization of wine storage.
  • Drive guest satisfaction through exceptional beverage service and pairing recommendations.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Facilitate communication regarding menu and stock changes with relevant staff.
  • Document all wine-related wastage and corked bottles accurately.
  • Continuously propose enhancements to the beverage program to the management team.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of service areas throughout the shift.
  • Perform various administrative tasks as assigned by the General Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Sommelier or wine-focused service role within a high-volume, upscale dining environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of wine, with additional beverage knowledge preferred.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage stress and resolve guest conflicts effectively.
  • Willingness to accept constructive feedback and implement it productively.
  • Adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of achieving high beverage sales, including premium wine selections.
  • Experience in expanding and diversifying the wine list to enhance the overall program.
  • Commitment to ongoing self-education in beverage knowledge.
  • History of effectively training service staff on wine and beverage offerings.
  • Ability to mentor new sommeliers in all aspects of the role.
  • Demonstrated reliability and a focus on continuous improvement.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to see, hear, speak, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. The role involves sitting, standing, and moving intermittently during working hours.
