Company Overview

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is on the lookout for a qualified individual to take on a full-time role as a Roadway Engineer. This position is available in our offices located in Indianapolis, IN or Louisville, KY. The selected candidate will be instrumental in enhancing Hanson's roadway engineering capabilities in collaboration with local municipalities and state transportation authorities across a diverse range of transportation engineering initiatives.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will work as part of multidisciplinary design teams, focusing on the planning and execution of transportation projects for various clients, including local governments and state transportation departments. The projects may encompass the reconstruction and rehabilitation of rural highways, urban roads, major thoroughfares, bridge replacements, culverts, storm sewers, intersections, sidewalks, multiuse paths, rail grade crossings, and traffic control plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering designs, construction plans, and contract documents, as well as author technical documents such as engineering reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with senior technical staff and other project disciplines.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff.
  • Prepare and review calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, identify challenges, and propose alternative solutions.
  • Assist agencies with the bidding and advertising processes.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Support project proposals and presentations for project pursuits.
  • Contribute to the development of project scope and fees for technical tasks.
  • Engage in public involvement activities and assist with grant applications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in roadway engineering is preferred.
  • Possession of an Indiana Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one from another state within six months.

Skills:

  • Ability to foster effective relationships with both internal and external clients.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing junior technical staff.
  • Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with Open Roads Designer Connect Edition is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in different offices.
  • Willingness to accept travel assignments and work overtime as needed to meet project demands.
  • Flexible work schedules are available.
