Key Responsibilities

Leadership Duties:
  • Directs the functions of the production and service sectors.
  • Assesses daily work assignments and modifies as necessary.
  • Conveys instructions and updates to staff regarding tasks to be completed.
  • Reports any issues or incidents to supervisors and management.
  • Provides on-the-job training to junior food service staff and maintains training records.
  • Conducts safety and sanitation inspections.
  • Ensures proper setup of food production and service areas.
  • Performs final checks on trays for temperature and accuracy as per tray tickets.
  • Monitors employee performance and offers feedback to supervisors.
  • Engages in performance enhancement initiatives and documents quality improvement metrics.
  • Completes other related tasks as assigned.
Culinary Duties:
  • Prepares tray line stations with necessary supplies and food items.
  • Serves meals in a cafeteria-style setting.
  • Clears and sanitizes assigned stations post-service.
  • Arranges dining tables for service.
  • Delivers meal trays to patients and communicates any feedback or concerns to supervisors or dietitians.
  • Prepares individual and bulk nourishment and supplemental food/beverages.
  • Calculates ingredient quantities required.
  • Converts measurements between metric and standard systems.
  • Conducts thorough cleaning tasks in food service areas.
  • Assists cooks in food preparation tasks.
  • Completes other related tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including early morning and evening hours.

Physical Demands: The role involves light to heavy physical work, including scrubbing large cooking utensils and maneuvering heavy carts. It requires continuous sitting, standing, walking, and frequent bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Employees may lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally more than 40 pounds with assistance.

Work Environment: The position is performed in kitchen settings where high temperatures and humidity from cooking and dishwashing equipment are common. The work area is well-lit but often noisy due to food service activities, with potential hazards such as slipping on wet floors. Employees may encounter hot liquids, sharp utensils, and extreme temperature changes when accessing refrigeration units.
