Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the organization, scheduling, and evaluation of maintenance activities, which encompass preventative, mechanical, and electrical repairs for the vehicles within the terminal fleet. This role offers access to advanced technology, essential tools, and comprehensive training. Additionally, you will play a key role in the recruitment and development of a team of mechanics to ensure we meet our service commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Terminal Manager to supervise maintenance personnel, including recruitment and performance assessments, while providing technical and safety training.
  • Review repair documentation, assess completed work by mechanics, maintain records of repairs, and liaise with Dispatch regarding vehicle availability.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues, and may provide training to mechanics while ensuring adherence to proper repair protocols.
  • Coordinate building maintenance and grounds upkeep as necessary.
  • Manage fuel and parts procurement, maintain inventory levels, and oversee subcontracted repair services.
  • Ensure compliance with fleet inspection and repair standards as per company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Address defects identified during inspections and ensure timely repairs are executed before vehicle deployment.
  • Generate reports on maintenance activities and conduct quality control checks on completed repairs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Physically manage tools and equipment, ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
  • Optimize repair and maintenance processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in aligning work schedules with operational needs and contribute to the development of quality assurance programs.
  • Conduct research on maintenance practices and assist in evaluating vehicle replacement needs.
  • Oversee the engagement of external vendors and assess their performance, providing technical guidance in service contract management.
  • Audit inventory levels for parts, tools, and fuel, ensuring accuracy and proper management.
  • Support the Fleet Maintenance Management team in policy development and implementation, providing insights on equipment needs and specifications.
  • Ensure daily operations comply with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Be available for after-hours and emergency situations as required.
  • Work alongside technicians to maintain and repair fleet vehicles, performing routine maintenance and leading diagnostic efforts using manufacturer software.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in tools, procedures, and safety protocols related to the maintenance and repair of various powered equipment.
  • Ability to operate a computer and adapt to software applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on customer service and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations, including EPA and OSHA standards.
  • Operational familiarity with gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel vehicles, as well as shop tools and equipment.
  • Effective scheduling and prioritization skills.
  • Experience in equipment inspection and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Preferred experience with propane/gasoline medium-duty truck engines.
  • ASE Certification(s) is advantageous.
  • Capability to lift heavy equipment and operate various shop tools safely.
  • Consistent attendance and reliability in the workplace.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • This position is safety-sensitive and adheres to DOT regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Two to three years of experience as a Technician in a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License with CDL, passenger, and school bus endorsements, or the ability to obtain them within a specified timeframe.
  • Ability to regularly lift heavy equipment and maintain a complete set of necessary tools for fleet maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License and DOT physical, or the ability to acquire within a designated period.
  • Possession of a Pennsylvania light and heavy-duty truck inspection license or willingness to obtain within six months of employment.

Work Environment:

This position requires in-person attendance and involves a day shift schedule, typically Monday through Friday, with potential weekend work as needed.
