Job Summary

A postdoctoral research position is available in the Commonwealth of Virginia to investigate the mechanisms of oncogenesis associated with p53 mutations. The successful candidate will design and optimize strategies to specifically target cancers carrying gain-of-function (GOF) p53 mutant.

Research Objectives
  • To investigate the role of p53 mutations in oncogenesis
  • To develop innovative targeting strategies for GOF mutant p53
  • To conduct studies on the mechanism of gain of oncogenic function by mutant p53
Responsibilities
  • Design and perform experiments to investigate p53 mutations and their role in oncogenesis
  • Develop and optimize strategies to target GOF mutant p53
  • Conduct studies on the mechanism of gain of oncogenic function by mutant p53
  • Maintain detailed documentation of research progress and results
  • Collaborate with the research team to achieve project goals
Requirements
  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
  • Experience with DNA cloning, immunostaining, and viruses
  • Experience with mouse breeding and mouse tumor studies
  • Excellent verbal and written scientific communication skills
  • Ability to design and perform experiments, and to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cancer molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and/or pharmacology
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation through electronic and notebook means
  • Commitment to diversity
