Job Overview

In collaboration with the Director of Safety Services and the Security Supervisor, the Safety and Security Specialist plays a crucial role in implementing the Hospital's Security program. This position demands a commitment to adhering to JCAHO, OSHA, and relevant state and local regulations. The Specialist is expected to exhibit effective communication skills while interacting with hospital personnel, visitors, and patients. A comprehensive understanding of all job-related methods, techniques, and skills is essential for optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:

The Specialist will undertake security duties on a daily basis, which include:

  • Conducting a minimum of two thorough inspections of all hospital facilities and grounds during each shift, as documented in daily logs.
  • Managing the locking and unlocking of buildings as directed by the supervisor, with oversight through daily logs.
  • Controlling and documenting all activities in the morgue, adhering to specific isolation and documentation protocols.
  • Assisting nursing staff with patient movement and control, following established procedures.
  • Performing visible patrols of the parking lot during shift changes to ensure safety.
  • Completing and submitting all necessary incident reports, work orders, hazard reports, and daily logs as required each shift.
  • Participating in educational sessions and departmental meetings to enhance knowledge of equipment used within the department.
  • Conducting investigations of incidents as they arise, coordinating follow-ups with appropriate authorities and departments.
  • Providing assistance to employees, visitors, and staff in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
  • Carrying out any additional duties as assigned.

Additional Qualifications:

Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent in General Studies.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association; valid Driver's License; Security License as required.

Preferred:

  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year in Security or Safety roles.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves very heavy work, requiring the exertion of over 25 pounds of force constantly, and/or more than 50 pounds frequently, and/or more than 100 pounds occasionally. There may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. The ability to work designated shift lengths, including 8 and 12-hour shifts, is necessary, which may include night shifts or irregular hours.
