Department Overview

Join the largest long-term care facility in South Dakota, offering a variety of services including general long-term care, short-stay rehabilitation, and specialized memory care.

Shift Details: Full-Time Day Shift: 6am to 2:30pm or 6am to 6pm, with every other weekend and holiday required.

Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a caregiver to residents during scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This role involves delivering resident-centered nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA is expected to provide age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Recording vital signs and providing psychosocial support.
  • Facilitating resident mobility through proper transfer techniques.
  • Contributing to a positive dining experience by assisting with meals and snacks.
  • Documenting resident interactions and communicating changes in condition to nursing staff.
  • Supporting wellness and recreational programs to encourage resident participation.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must be at least 16 years old. Previous experience in long-term care is advantageous.

Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required, with the expectation to obtain state certification within four months of employment. Training and certification will be provided by the facility.

Ongoing education is essential, with a minimum of 12 hours required annually to maintain competency and certifications.
