Job Title: Physical Instructor

Budgeted Up To 27 Hours

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Physical Instructor to join our team at the Chicago Park District. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, promoting, organizing, conducting, and instructing all physical activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement course curricula for instruction of sports, games, and competitive athletics.
  • Provide instruction and supervision to patrons in sports, games, and competitive athletics.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques and skills for recreation and athletics.
  • Adapt programs to reflect differing levels of participant skill development.
  • Provide instruction in advanced strategies of team and individual sports, physical fitness, and conditioning.
  • Provide information on rules of individual and team sports.
  • Explain basics of low-organized activities.
  • Instruct rhythm and movement.
  • Enforce and promote safety guidelines for recreation and athletic activities.
  • Resolve conflicts among participants.
  • Issue and maintain inventory of recreation equipment and supplies.
  • Set up recreation apparatus and equipment.
  • Officiate team and individual sports.
  • Promote sportsmanship and encourage creativity in participants.
  • Communicate constructively with participants, parents, volunteers, and community.
  • Consult with individuals and community groups to determine their interests, needs, and desires.
  • Determine tournament eligibility requirements.
  • Verify dates and standards.
  • Establish schedules for tournaments, leagues, and competitions.
  • Conduct meetings on competitions and other special events.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Supervise unorganized play and enforce rules and regulations.
  • Conduct and attend workshops and in-service training seminars.
Requirements:

At least twenty (20) hours from an accredited college in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or Physical Education required. Alternatively, three (3) years of work experience in Park and Recreation or related field; bachelor's degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of athletic, leisure, and recreational theories and principles.
  • Skill in teaching recreational, leisure, and athletic activities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to evaluate skill levels and teach recreational, leisure, and athletic activities accordingly.
