Patient Admission Specialist (EOW Saturday & Sunday 7a-7p)
Weekend Days - Part Time

Position Overview:
The Patient Admission Specialist plays a crucial role in the registration process for both inpatient and outpatient services within the Health System. This position is tasked with gathering essential patient identification, demographic details, and financial information to ensure accurate registration and secure patient encounters. The role also involves handling point-of-service collections as necessary while maintaining a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the designated unit or department.
2. Monitor daily schedules for patient arrivals in the department as applicable.
3. Facilitate the admission and registration of both scheduled and unscheduled patients for the assigned department.
4. Conduct bedside admissions for patients who are direct admits to the unit as required.
5. Verify identification to ensure the accuracy of demographic and insurance information.
6. Accurately enter patient information into the computer system, ensuring correct spelling of names, diagnoses, dates of birth, social security numbers, employers, guarantors, and medical record numbers.
7. Welcome patients and/or their relatives, conducting interviews to gather or confirm pertinent information.
8. Collect co-payments or deposits as appropriate for the services rendered.
9. Balance the cash drawer as part of the end-of-day reconciliation process.
10. Explain facility policies and ensure that patients and/or relatives understand and sign consent for treatment and insurance forms at the appropriate time.
11. Maintain clear and accurate documentation on the necessary forms and input data into the computer system.
12. Adhere to Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance regulations.
13. Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) as required for admissions.
14. Participate in staff training or educational opportunities that enhance knowledge relevant to the position.
15. Manage the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in the safe, following departmental policies as needed.
16. Provide coverage in all areas of admitting as requested, adhering to established guidelines.
17. Stay informed about administrative policies, departmental procedures, third-party coverage, and required admission and insurance documentation.
18. Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned by management, which may include special projects, telephone coverage, filing, scanning, copying, and other tasks as instructed.

Job Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED

Preferred:
- Experience in clerical, registration, and/or customer service within a healthcare environment is preferred.
