Position Overview

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is seeking to appoint tenure-track faculty specializing in Cancer Epidemiology at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.

Key Opportunities

  • Engage in significant collaborative research with both clinical and academic faculty at the Wilmot Cancer Center.
  • The Wilmot Cancer Institute stands as the largest provider of cancer care in the region, catering to approximately 3 million individuals across a 27-county area in western and central New York.
  • Wilmot serves as the central hub for over $30 million annually in cancer-related research and training funding, and hosts one of only two NCI Community Oncology Research Program research bases at an academic medical institution.
  • The institute features an 87-bed flagship cancer center, 13 outpatient facilities, and one of the largest blood and marrow transplant programs in the state. It is also home to the region's first cancer survivorship clinic and one of the nation’s pioneering geriatric oncology clinics.
  • Numerous opportunities exist for research, education, and community engagement through PHS, the Aging Institute, Environmental Health Sciences Center, the Del Monte Neuroscience Institute, and the Center for Community Health & Prevention, among others.
  • Attract and sustain extramural research funding, demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring, and enhance research collaborations within the university and the community.

Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Epidemiology (PhD, ScD, MD, or equivalent) or a closely related discipline with a strong focus on research design and statistical methodologies, particularly in cancer epidemiology.
  • A minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience, a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications, and a demonstrated capacity to secure extramural funding.
  • Experience or research focus in screening for lung, pancreatic, breast, and colon cancers, as well as hepatocellular cancer and lymphoma, with a preference for those studying health disparities in cancer care and outcomes.
