Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis division conducts assessments for piping systems in alignment with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards applicable to the specific evaluations being undertaken. This division also addresses various specialized topics, including:
  • Monitoring and analyzing vibrations to assess operational vibrations linked to plant modifications and operational events, while offering solutions and designs for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Assessment of hydraulic transients, evaluation of piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, operability assessments, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic forces.
  • Pipe rupture assessments, analysis of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and evaluations of pipe flaws.
Role-Specific Responsibilities

This position provides advanced technical guidance and oversight to project team members within the discipline. It involves establishing project task timelines and budgets to fulfill overall project objectives. The role includes coordinating activities across various disciplines and ensuring the successful delivery of project outputs that meet all technical, quality, and project control standards. The individual will act as a technical liaison with clients and serve as a primary technical resource on projects.

Lead engineers in this role will support engineering design initiatives with the following responsibilities:
  • Reviewing intricate calculations and approving straightforward calculations. Offering technical direction to project team members and ensuring calculations are accurate and comply with project specifications.
  • Reviewing and endorsing simple system/structural designs while preparing and evaluating complex system/structural designs to guarantee completeness, accuracy, quality, constructability, and operability.
  • Conducting engineering reviews of drawings. Assessing design inputs for complex systems/structures. Defining client expectations for drawings and coordinating the interface between design and engineering. Actively participating in design reviews to ensure quality, constructability, and operability.
  • Preparing and reviewing major system, installation, and material specifications. Defining technical and commercial requirements, including scheduling vendor submittals necessary for design input.
  • Conducting bid evaluations for complex systems and installation scopes. Engaging in bid negotiations with vendors and potentially evaluating change orders on behalf of the client.
  • Preparing and reviewing single-discipline, complex reports/studies and contributing to the preparation of multi-discipline reports. Reviewing studies and reports to ensure that conclusions are technically sound, cost-effective, and clearly articulated.
Work Schedule

This position operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with a focus on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Understanding of the design, selection, and application of pipe support elements.
  • Familiarity with commercially available piping products and their applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Understanding of pipe condition assessment.
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP.

Salary Range: $129,000 - $153,000
