Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis sector is responsible for conducting assessments of piping systems in alignment with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards applicable to the specific evaluation being executed. This discipline also encompasses several specialized topics, including:
  • Monitoring and analyzing vibrations to assess operational vibrations linked to plant modifications and operational events, while providing solutions and designs for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Assessment of hydraulic transients, analysis of piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, operability evaluations, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic forces.
  • Evaluations concerning pipe ruptures, assessments of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and evaluations of pipe flaws.
Role-Specific Information

This position involves providing technical assistance on projects by executing a variety of engineering tasks, such as preparing calculations, specifications, and component designs. The role requires involvement in resolving straightforward design challenges, with most tasks performed under limited supervision.

Mid-Level personnel contribute to engineering design projects with the following responsibilities:
  • Conducts complex calculations and reviews simpler calculations.
  • Evaluates basic system/structural designs.
  • Under supervision, prepares documented design inputs for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs and Master Diagrams).
  • Drafts specifications for the majority of balance of plant equipment.
  • Prepares bid evaluations for individual components and calculations to support economic assessments, while gathering data from vendors.
  • Creates basic reports/studies.
  • Contributes to project budgets, schedules, and work plans, ensuring personal work is completed within budget and on time.
  • Utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills to relay information to project team members and management, presenting technical information clearly and concisely in all deliverables.
  • Engages with vendors through well-structured and comprehensive specifications.
  • Applies accepted standards and processes to assigned project tasks.
  • Completes work assignments within the established timeline.
  • May provide mentorship to entry-level engineers.
This role operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.

Qualifications

Note: This position does not offer sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S.

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with a focus on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Understanding of the design, selection, and application of pipe support elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred but Not Required Skills and Experience:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their applications.
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Understanding of pipe condition assessment.
