Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis sector conducts assessments for piping systems in compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards applicable to the specific assessment being undertaken. This discipline also addresses various specialized topics.
  • Monitoring and analysis of vibrations to assess system operational vibrations linked to plant modifications and operational occurrences, providing solutions and designs for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Assessment of hydraulic transients, analysis of piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, operability assessments, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic forces.
  • Pipe rupture assessments, analysis of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and evaluations of pipe flaws.
Role-Specific Information

Offers technical assistance on projects by executing a variety of engineering tasks, including preparing calculations, specifications, and component designs. Engages in the resolution of straightforward design challenges. Most tasks are performed with minimal oversight.

Mid-Level personnel support engineering design initiatives with the following responsibilities:
  • Conducts complex calculations and reviews basic calculations.
  • Evaluates simple system/structural designs.
  • Prepares documented design input for drawing production (i.e., P&IDs and Master Diagrams) under supervision.
  • Drafts specifications for the majority of balance of plant equipment.
  • Conducts bid evaluations for individual components and prepares calculations to support economic assessments. Collects data from vendors.
  • Creates basic reports/studies.
  • Contributes to project budgets, timelines, and work plans. Monitors personal work to ensure completion within budget and on schedule.
  • Utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills to relay information to project team members and management. Presents written technical information clearly and concisely in all deliverables.
  • Interacts with vendors through clearly articulated and comprehensive specifications.
  • Applies accepted standards and processes to assigned project tasks.
  • Completes work assignments within established timelines.
  • May mentor junior engineers.
This position operates on a hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence three days a week.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, focusing on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Understanding of the design, selection, and application of pipe support elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred but Not Required Skills and Experience:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their applications.
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Understanding of pipe condition assessment.
Salary Range

$88,000 - $102,000
