Role Overview

The Chat/Text Counselor will utilize crisis communication platforms to deliver crisis intervention, emotional support, and resource information to individuals seeking help. This position emphasizes quality assurance and may offer the option to work on-site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis counseling through chat and text services.
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop safety plans, de-escalate situations, and follow up with individuals seeking assistance.
  • Act as a mandated reporter in instances of suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Familiarize oneself with available resources and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of chat/text interactions, ensuring documentation is completed in real-time.
  • Achieve an average of 1.5 chats/texts per hour.
  • Participate in ongoing training as required by the organization.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new counselors.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives related to suicide prevention.
  • Attend regular meetings for the crisis intervention program.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Access to high-speed internet and a quiet, confidential workspace.
  • Demonstrate empathy, flexibility, and adaptability in various situations.
  • Availability to work during the program's operating hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Reliability in adhering to scheduled shifts based on program needs.
  • Complete annual training as mandated by the organization.
  • Possess knowledge of risk assessment, data collection, and chat/text triage techniques.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage positively with diverse individuals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of connecting with individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Proficient in multitasking and time management, able to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Team-oriented with experience in complex organizational settings.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and values.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including background checks.
