Job Overview

SUMMARY

The Cost Analysis Specialist is responsible for generating detailed cost assessments for labor, services, equipment, and materials related to proposals and projects, ensuring adherence to established pricing protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret and analyze engineering schematics (including general arrangements, piping, electrical, and P&ID) to facilitate accurate cost estimations.
  • Conduct material take-offs for proprietary equipment, rotating machinery, vessels, piping, instrumentation, and structural components, including soliciting quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to gather service estimates.
  • Calculate labor and material expenses for the fabrication of subassemblies and basic product vessels, ensuring compliance with specifications and relevant codes.
  • Engage daily with Business Development Managers, Sales Engineers, and the Proposals Department.
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of the department's cost database.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on generated cost estimates.
  • Conduct cost analysis on projects to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance the estimating process.
  • Deliver cost estimates promptly while maintaining the required accuracy.
  • Adapt to challenges and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Continuously refine cost estimating tools and methodologies.
  • Enhance the overall cost estimating process.
  • Commit to excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security performance.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of cost estimating experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or oil and gas sectors is required with a High School diploma.
  • 1-3 years of engineering, cost control, or estimating experience in the relevant industries is necessary with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with Sage (Timberline) software is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with licensed processes is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of industry standards in Oil and Gas and Chemical sectors is essential.
  • Understanding of terminology used in refining, chemical, and heavy industries is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize estimates based on deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage in-house project assignments and tasks with varying timelines to meet all commitments.
  • Proficient in Oracle, Excel, Microsoft Word, and other MS Office applications.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

  • Must be able to work a standard schedule and additional hours as required by job responsibilities.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be insurable under the company's liability insurance policy.
