El candidato ideal, bajo dirección general, realizará trabajos de diagnóstico, reparación y mantenimiento en autobuses, automóviles y equipos relacionados; además de realizar otras tareas según sea necesario.

Ejemplos de Tareas

Las tareas a continuación son solo ejemplos de los diversos tipos de trabajo que se pueden realizar:

  • Realiza pruebas en carretera de los vehículos para asegurar su fiabilidad.
  • Realiza reparaciones mecánicas mayores, incluyendo la sustitución de motores, diferenciales y transmisiones.
  • Realiza alineaciones de frenos, tanto en sistemas de frenos de tambor como de disco de servicio pesado.
  • Desmonta, repara, reemplaza y ajusta componentes de sistemas de autobuses y/o automóviles, incluyendo sistemas de motor, eléctricos, suspensión, combustible, neumáticos, hidráulicos y HVAC.
  • Verifica la presión del sistema de refrigeración; reemplaza mangueras, correas, ventiladores y termostatos según sea necesario; repara o reemplaza radiadores y bombas de agua.
  • Proporciona servicio de emergencia en carretera a vehículos deshabilitados.
  • Realiza verificaciones y reparaciones en sistemas HVAC, incluyendo el uso de máquinas de reciclaje de refrigerantes.
  • Completa la documentación escrita de las reparaciones y/o trabajos realizados.
  • Diagnostica y repara fallas en el equipo.
  • Realiza inspecciones de mantenimiento preventivo en autobuses de tránsito, camionetas ligeras y otros vehículos/equipos.
  • Utiliza equipos de prueba como medidores de prueba/DVOM; es competente en diagnósticos por computadora.
Requisitos

Para desempeñar este trabajo con éxito, un individuo debe ser capaz de realizar cada deber esencial de manera satisfactoria. Los requisitos a continuación son representativos del conocimiento, habilidad y/o capacidad requerida:

  • Cuatro o más años de experiencia en mantenimiento de vehículos y/o capacitación formal en el mantenimiento de vehículos ligeros y pesados; y un diploma de escuela secundaria o un GED.
  • Debe tener un permiso de Clase B y endosos antes del primer día de trabajo. Debe poder obtener una licencia de Clase B al final del período de prueba.
  • Conocimiento de técnicas y métodos de reparación y reacondicionamiento de vehículos ligeros y pesados.
  • Habilidad para diagnosticar fallas y determinar el curso de acción apropiado.
  • Operar equipos de diagnóstico por computadora y equipos de prueba mecánicos y electrónicos.
  • Comunicar efectivamente tanto de forma oral como escrita.
Condiciones Especiales

Los puestos en esta clasificación se consideran sensibles a la seguridad y están sujetos a pruebas de drogas y alcohol, incluyendo pruebas aleatorias, bajo las regulaciones de la Administración Federal de Transporte (FTA).

El proceso de selección consiste en una evaluación de educación y experiencia. Se invitará a los candidatos más calificados a participar en el proceso de selección, que puede incluir una combinación de exámenes escritos, de rendimiento y orales.
