Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Program Assistant (Environmental Health Coordinator) to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our nation's veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Records Management: Serve as the subject matter expert on environmental exposures, attend conferences and training sessions to increase knowledge, and provide detailed information to veterans and their families.
  • Registry Maintenance: Ensure follow-up letters are generated, establish and maintain veteran health records, and write facility policy memoranda and SOPs.
  • Customer Service: Maintain daily contacts with veterans, family members, and public officials, interview veterans to determine eligibility for Environmental Health Registry exams, and refer veterans to the Veterans Benefits Administration if interested in filing a claim.
  • General Administrative: Keep environmental health clinicians and administrative staff informed on daily office functioning, ensure follow-up on outstanding correspondence, and oversee staff education and training.
  • Compliance: Monitor compliance with timeframe requirements and explore other options if timeliness cannot be met.
  • Conference Attendance: Participate in quarterly telephone conferences, advise the Post Deployment Health Services of changes in Environmental Health Coordinators or Clinicians, and collect data and submit reports as required.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
  • Experience performing a wide variety of clerical and administrative support duties, maintaining records and databases, collecting and analyzing data and information, and utilizing computer software.
  • Subject matter expertise on environmental exposures, knowledge of available resources, and experience with performing analytical and evaluative work in support of the Environmental Health Program.
