Reliability Engineer for Vehicle Interiors and Seats

We are seeking a skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team at Tesla, focusing on vehicle interiors and seats. As a key member of our reliability team, you will play a crucial role in designing reliability into our vehicle interior structures and seats.

This role involves following the reliability lifecycle of these products from concept to design, development, manufacturing, and field operation. You will be responsible for identifying risks associated with emerging designs and architectures, creating test plans to assess product reliability, and providing reliability analyses and suggestions to improve product reliability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying solid knowledge of reliability methods, material properties, and failure/degradation mechanisms to design accelerated test plans for design validation and demonstration of reliability growth
  • Analyzing field usage and environmental conditions to optimize requirement setting and test methods
  • Facilitating and leading design FMEA sessions to assess product risks, determine validation test plans, and drive reliable design choices
  • Working with manufacturing quality, service engineering, supplier quality, and design teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures originating in testing and in the field
  • Generating process validation test plans to implement at suppliers and driving root cause corrective action with suppliers to resolve production process issues
  • Providing reliability design guidelines and applying reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement

Requirements for this role include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in a reliability engineering role or on mechanical systems related to automotive applications
  • Solid knowledge of material properties and failure/degradation mechanisms for polymers, fabrics, foams
  • Knowledge of plastic part design and manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of Highly Accelerated testing methods and governing equations for different types of acceleration models
  • Experience with developing reliability guidelines and inventing novel ways of reliability testing
  • Working knowledge of reliability statistics, including Weibull analysis, and experience with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, etc.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques, such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and EDX
  • Self-driven and focused individual with a proven ability to manage parallel tasks effectively, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances

The expected compensation for this role is $84,000 - $222,000/annual salary, plus cash and stock awards, and benefits.
