Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary:

The City of University City is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Sanitation Department. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy, complex, or specialized equipment, including high-lift, automated refuse trucks, roll-off, and rear loading refuse equipment. You will also be responsible for making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, as well as performing manual labor tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment, including high-lift, automated refuse trucks, roll-off, and rear loading refuse equipment
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including cleaning City streets with a power street sweeper
  • Operate small power and hand tools
  • Keep equipment clean and well-maintained
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Sanitation Superintendent
Requirements:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent certification
  • Between one and three years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • A valid, current Class "A" CDL is required in the first six (6) months of employment
Working Conditions:

Work is performed under the direction of the Sanitation Superintendent and is subject to review upon completion. Work is performed in a fast-paced environment, often under adverse weather conditions.
