GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Educational Support Specialist in Special Education plays a crucial role in assisting educators and support staff in delivering effective instruction. This position is essential for monitoring student achievement and maintaining accurate records of progress.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of an Associate's degree, OR completion of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an accredited institution, OR demonstrated proficiency in assisting with reading, writing, and mathematics instruction through a state or locally approved competency assessment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Physical capability to walk, stand, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions to support educational programs.
  • Dedication to fostering learning for all students - assist and reinforce educational concepts for individuals or small groups.
  • Regular attendance is critical.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and managing situations with professionalism.
  • Expected to engage with all internal and external stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Possesses the physical stamina and dexterity required for a full day of varied activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of concepts introduced by certified educators.
  • Observes and documents student behavior, assisting in the implementation of behavior modification strategies as directed by the teacher.
  • Builds and maintains a professional relationship with the classroom teacher and other staff members.
  • Assists students during arrival and dismissal times.
  • Commits to supporting all students in their learning journey - reinforcing educational concepts for individuals or small groups.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Participates in professional development and training sessions.
  • Supervises students during lunch and recess periods as assigned.
  • Organizes and retrieves educational materials and manages schedules according to established guidelines.
  • Utilizes technology to assist students with educational software and tools.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Reports to: Building Principal

Work Schedule: 7 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 10 Month, Non-Exempt

Salary: Compensation is determined in accordance with negotiated agreements or board-adopted salary schedules.

Employment Terms:

This role is classified as a full-time non-exempt position. Employment terms are governed by applicable state laws and district policies, which may be subject to change. If represented by a collective bargaining unit, employment will also adhere to the negotiated agreement with that unit.

Employment is contingent upon:
  • Verification of all necessary licenses, certificates, and requirements for the position.
  • A satisfactory background check.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of any required pre-employment drug tests.
  • Completion of a tuberculosis skin test, if applicable.
  • Passing a pre-employment medical examination to confirm the ability to perform essential job functions.
