Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Education Specialist to join our team at the State of Nebraska. As an Education Specialist, you will be responsible for providing academic support and instruction to high school and adult education students at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) Community High School and other Omaha facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement lessons for individual students and groups to facilitate their academic needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate with other facilities to meet the academic needs of eligible students.
  • Teach core academic subjects and non-core subjects such as physical education, vocational/career preparedness, and music/performing arts.
  • Work with students with varying academic abilities and document progress.
  • Assist in determining monthly inmate performance ratings and prepare progress reports.
  • Maintain supervision and discipline in the classroom and supervise inmate teacher aides.
  • Identify and order student learning materials and monitor classroom cleanliness.
  • Develop and produce learning materials, classroom management tools, and other educational resources.
  • Collaborate with existing staff to develop a team approach to education.
  • Manage educational data and maintain accurate records.
Requirements
  • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with a minimum of provisional endorsement in Math or Special Education (9-12).
  • Background working with at-risk or high-risk students and/or in a correctional setting is preferred.
  • Added endorsement or ability to obtain same in vocational/career technical, library media, physical education, and/or music/performing arts is desired.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer skills to include Windows, Word, Excel, online student management systems, and virtual learning platforms.
