Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Group Leader to join our Inorganic Isotope & Actinide Chemistry team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and operational leadership to our technical and programmatic activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance our technical capabilities and programmatic objectives.
  • Provide operational leadership and oversight to our research and development activities.
  • Collaborate with our Group Leader and office staff to ensure effective communication and coordination across the team.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, environmental, and financial regulations.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to support our research and development activities.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a team of scientists and engineers to achieve our technical and programmatic objectives.
  • Represent our team in internal and external forums to promote our research and development activities.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role in a research and development organization.
  • Strong record of technical achievement and leadership in chemical or related research.
  • Proven experience in technical decision-making, budget and resource management, and personnel development and mentorship.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience with safety, security, and environmental regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of technical achievement relevant to our group's activities in inorganic, organometallic, or organic synthetic chemistry and related characterization methodologies.
  • Experience interacting with external funding agencies and sponsors.
  • Knowledge of DOE and other sponsor needs in actinide research, isotope production and applications, energy programs, weapons or national security efforts.
  • Working knowledge of LANL policies in integrated work management, safety, security, environment, finance, and human resources.
  • Prior experience working within a radiological or nuclear facility.
  • Prior experience contributing to the strategic directions and program development of an organization.
