Key Responsibilities

The Nutrition Specialist will collaborate with staff to ensure effective clinic operations and administer nutrition-related services within the WIC Program, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the NYS Department of Health.

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver Participant Centered Nutrition Services (PCNS) via phone or in-person consultations.
  • Assist participants with online nutrition education resources.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments to determine eligibility and nutrition risk.
  • Authorize and manage food package distribution.
  • Document services provided, including referrals and follow-ups.
  • Evaluate formula requests in consultation with healthcare providers.
  • Identify high-risk participants and develop care plans.
  • Facilitate nutrition education, including breastfeeding support tailored to participant needs.
  • Refer participants to additional health and social services as needed.
  • Monitor participant progress and document outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and ethical standards.
  • Assist in training new staff members.
  • Provide supervision in the absence of senior staff.
  • Travel to various sites as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN)
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Nutrition

Experience:

  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Reliable transportation for site visits and equipment transport
