Position Overview

Abilities First, Inc., a recognized leader in providing support services for individuals with developmental disabilities, is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to join our esteemed School Program. With over sixty years of experience, we pride ourselves on our commitment to inclusivity and excellence in service delivery.

This role is crucial in enhancing the physical well-being of our preschool-aged clients through tailored therapeutic interventions. Our organization values diverse experiences and backgrounds, ensuring a welcoming environment for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students on your caseload to establish appropriate long-term and short-term therapeutic goals.
  • Assess new referrals to determine the necessity and level of physical therapy services required.
  • Deliver direct therapeutic treatment to students, ensuring individualized care plans are followed.
  • Collaborate with classroom staff and related services to effectively schedule therapy sessions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with organizational policies, adhering to all deadlines and required formats.
  • Regularly review and adjust student goals based on progress assessments.
  • Evaluate the need for specialized equipment in conjunction with educational and clinical staff.
  • Recommend, create, and modify equipment as necessary for your assigned caseload.
  • Engage with parents and educational staff to discuss student progress and therapy goals.
  • Provide training to parents and staff on proper techniques for supporting students' physical needs.
  • Ensure communication with relevant parties regarding the need for periodic medical reassessments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to discussions regarding students' therapy needs.
  • Supervise and mentor Physical Therapy Assistants and student interns as assigned.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions for staff as needed.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of practice and ethical conduct as outlined by professional guidelines.
  • Stay current with required certifications and seek additional training opportunities as necessary.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures, prioritizing safety and ethical behavior in all interactions.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure with the New York State Department of Education.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record as per insurance requirements.
  • Certifications in CPR, SFA, and Med Certification are advantageous; ability to obtain these certifications is required.
  • Successful completion of a background check as mandated by state regulations.
  • Physical capability to lift and maneuver individuals as part of therapy services.
