We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. Key Responsibilities- Take patient history and record in chart, including current medications and drug allergies.
- Ensure exam rooms are cleaned and scales are balanced.
- Check treatment rooms for necessary supplies and replenish daily.
- Complete appropriate forms for patients and provide relevant literature.
- Take weight, height, and vital signs on all patients.
- Prepare patients physically and psychologically for treatment and diagnostic tests or studies.
- Schedule tests as ordered by the provider.
- Give patient instructions regarding medications or supplies.
- Take appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Perform CLIA-waived lab procedures after collecting specimens.
- Set up supplies for procedures as needed.
- Adhere to clinic HIPAA policy.
- Retrieve and record patient activity for each client visit to prepare for proper billing information.
- Obtain client payments, verify patient eligibility, and record all pertinent insurance information.
- Cordially greet and receive clients, ascertain their needs, and direct visitors and callers accordingly.
- Perform a variety of receptionist duties to include clerical and electronic filing to maintain efficient operations.
- Provide answers to numerous phone calls or direct the caller to the proper place.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services, participate in emergency and disaster situations, and participate in performance improvement as assigned.
- Schedule and confirm appointments, verify insurance, and collect payments.
- Scan all mail, patient registration, etc. into EMR on a daily basis.
- Retrieve medication authorizations from insurance for prescribed medications.
- Retrieve mail daily from NRMC.
- Transport labs.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor or physician.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications for the physician.
- Call patients back with results given by the physician and make documentation.
- Document all phone calls and communications with patients and pertinent information required for patient care.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Current BCLS certification or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
