ReDiscover is a non-profit community mental health center in southeastern Jackson County, Missouri, dedicated to delivering efficient and cost-effective treatment for individuals affected by mental illness or substance use. Our team of over 700 employees is passionate about people and supports our community through various programs and services.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Peer Specialist to join our Peer Services Program, which provides support to clients using personal experiences to build rapport and engage in services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping others.

Responsibilities
  • Support ReDiscover's Substance Use Disorder programs and work with clients who have a substance use disorder.
  • Share lived experience of resilience and recovery and model successful recovery behaviors for individuals with a mental health diagnosis and/or a substance use disorder.
  • Link clients with support groups and other community resources, including health and wellness activities, employment, and other activities that support clients' recovery goals.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual client treatment plans.
  • Participate and/or facilitate mutual support and education groups within specific ReDiscover programs.
  • Assist with client transportation, which may include transporting individuals in a personal vehicle.
  • Utilize non-traditional means to connect with clients, which may include street outreach.
  • Safeguard Protected Health Information (written and electronically) and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
  • A valid automobile driver's license, appropriate automobile insurance, and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work.
  • Must have life experiences with mental illness/substance use disorders and have received services.
  • Must have successfully completed the Peer Specialist training through the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) and successfully passed the certification exam.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word, and Excel programs as well as GSuite.
