In the role of Cytology Support Specialist, under the guidance of the Cytology Supervisor, you will manage the allocation of cytology cases to laboratory Cytotechnologists and Pathologists for evaluation. Your responsibilities will include assisting with documentation, slide retrieval, and maintaining daily workload records for pathologists.

  • Manage the allocation of cytology cases and associated documentation to cytotechnologists and laboratory pathologists for evaluation.
  • Periodically gather slides from primary screeners for distribution to the pathologist and the quality control technician for assessment.
  • Retrieve historical slides for 5-year retrospective reviews or general assessments.
  • Scan slides to confirm the completion of cases prior to filing.
  • Redistribute incomplete cases that have been filed incorrectly to the designated cytotechnologist or pathologist for review and completion.
  • File slides in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain and report a daily workload tally for cytology cases assigned to laboratory pathologists.
  • Organize and file worksheets for 5-year retrospective reviews.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety and quality assurance.
  • Represent the laboratory in a professional manner, treating colleagues courteously and cooperatively, and serving as a positive role model for laboratory staff.
  • Exemplify and embody the mission and core values of Women's Care.
  • Ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience required.
  • Proficient in computer usage and data entry, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with Orchard laboratory information systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of eClinical Works EMR preferred.
  • Strong data entry and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, be self-motivated, reliable, accountable, and conscientious.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, external organizations, and patients and their families.
  • Good organizational skills, capable of handling multiple tasks concurrently, and effective collaboration with all aforementioned groups.
  • Dependable, reliable, and punctual.
