Position Summary

As a Cytology Assistant, you will work under the guidance of the Cytology Supervisor, facilitating the allocation of cytology cases to laboratory Cytotechnologists and Pathologists for evaluation. Your role will also encompass support tasks such as filing, slide retrieval, and maintaining a daily workload tally for the pathologist.

  • Manage the allocation of cytology cases and relevant documentation to cytotechnologists and laboratory pathologists for assessment.
  • Regularly collect slides from primary screeners for distribution to the pathologist and the quality control technician for examination.
  • Retrieve prior slides for retrospective reviews or general assessments.
  • Scan slides to confirm the completion of cases before filing.
  • Redistribute incomplete cases that have been mistakenly filed to the designated cytotechnologist or pathologist for review and finalization.
  • File slides in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain and report a daily workload tally for cytology cases assigned to the laboratory pathologists.
  • Organize and file worksheets for 5-year retrospective reviews.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, particularly those related to safety and quality assurance.
  • Represent the laboratory professionally, treating colleagues with courtesy and cooperation, and serving as a positive role model.

  • Ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience is necessary.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and data entry, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of Orchard laboratory information systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with eClinical Works EMR is advantageous.
  • Strong data entry and record-keeping skills are essential.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to multitask, demonstrate self-motivation, reliability, accountability, and conscientiousness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Capability to interact and communicate professionally with all levels of internal personnel, providers, and patients.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
