Position Summary

Unified Women's Healthcare, a leading provider in women's health services, has established a cutting-edge CAP accredited laboratory in the Tampa region, focusing on GYN Pathology to ensure the highest standards in laboratory specimen diagnostics.

With a vast network of over 250 medical offices and more than 600 OBGYN providers across Florida, our laboratory encompasses Histology, GYN Cytology, and Molecular Microbiology.

We are currently in search of a skilled Laboratory Assistant to become a vital part of our Cytology division, working Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.

This role is essential in supporting our dedicated Cytology team.

The Laboratory Assistant will engage in various support functions for laboratory technical personnel, which include:

  • Receiving and processing specimens in accordance with testing requirements, ensuring accurate patient identification and proper specimen collection.
  • Correctly labeling specimens and distributing them to the designated testing areas.
  • Preparing equipment and workspaces for specimen analysis.
  • Conducting equipment maintenance and keeping detailed records of activities.
  • Performing clerical and administrative tasks as required.
  • Organizing and maintaining laboratory specimen storage.
  • Monitoring laboratory supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels as directed by laboratory management.
  • Reporting any specimen or laboratory equipment discrepancies or malfunctions to technical staff or laboratory management.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the workspace along with all laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
  • Following chemical hygiene and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Complying with all laboratory procedures, processes, and methodologies.
  • Assisting technical laboratory staff and management with additional responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Science, Life Science, Medical Technology, Mathematics, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in Cytology, Histology, or Molecular Microbiology is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a laboratory assistant or relevant laboratory experience is preferred.
