Accounting Manager Job Description

Job Summary:



The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department at Purdue Federal Credit Union. This role involves supervising and leading a team of accounting professionals, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.



Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Service and Settlement:



  • Assist and lead in daily processing and reconciliation of GL/correspondent bank accounts
  • Manage GL entries related to all credit union accounts
  • Assist in daily accounting activities and responsible for ensuring proper internal controls and compliance with GAAP
  • Assist and lead ATM and Branch cash management and reconciliation of bank accounts and outstanding items entries
  • Responsible for providing monthly financial reports, statistical and regulatory reporting, including quarterly call report and annual external audit
  • Additional reporting and information gathering in support of internal and external audit
  • Responsible for fixed asset and accounts payable process and reconciliation to GL's


Supervision:



  • Build team communication and improve internal and external member service
  • Recommend and implement departmental procedures to improve time management and stream-line daily accounting operation processes
  • Maintain up to date and monitor enforcement of department procedures
  • Direct involvement in department hiring, supervision, training, and review of the professional development of staff
  • Promote dialog with staff and with management


Special Projects:



  • Assist with departmental projects as assigned by manager


Individual and Team Development:



  • Continuous learning and exploring of systems
  • Oversees processing of Accounts Payable
  • Oversees Cash ordering
  • Manages, coaches, mentors and trains accounting team


Required Skills:



Education and Credentials:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other related fields


Experience:



  • Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in accounting, at a financial institution or audit firm preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in management


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Competent computer skills
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees, members, vendors and company contacts
  • Ability to follow the core values of honesty, integrity, mutual respect, pride and ownership
