Crew Club Head Coach and Development Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Head Coach and Fundraising Director for Middlebury College's Crew Club. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for rowing with your expertise in fundraising and development.
Key Responsibilities- Head Coach:
- Mentor and develop the skills of the Crew Club members, focusing on both athletic and leadership development.
- Design and implement practice activities and training programs to ensure safety and effectiveness.
- Attend all club practices and assist in the coordination of competitions, serving as the club's primary on-site risk manager.
- Work with the Office of Sports Medicine to ensure all medical clearance requirements are met.
- Manage the club's equipment, including maintenance, repairs, and procurement.
- Supervise assistant coaches and provide feedback and evaluation on a regular basis.
- Coordinate with the Office of College Advancement to develop fundraising efforts to support club operations.
- Fundraising Director:
- Conduct 1:1 and small group visits with prospects and volunteers to assess, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships.
- Manage a defined group for special project fundraising, including recruiting and managing fundraising volunteers.
- Build and advance strong professional relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of Middlebury to secure philanthropic contributions.
- Collaborate with annual giving, leadership gifts, planned gifts, and the alumni office to engage prospects and secure donations.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum 3 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level, and a US Rowing Level 2 coaching certification.
- Boating license and emergency medicine training.
- Current State of VT DOT Physical.
- Commitment to student development through sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in development or a related field preferred.
This role requires a flexible schedule, with the ability to work nights and weekends as needed. Travel is also required, including extensive air and public transportation. Rowing is a physically demanding activity, requiring lifting of heavy objects, work in extreme weather conditions, and in and around water. The role also involves working in a traditional office setting, primarily at a desk and computer.
