Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Operations Manager to lead our Maintenance & Repair (M&R) operations at our terminal. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure the highest productivity and supervision in the repair operation, while delivering excellent customer service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage the activities of mechanics engaged in the Maintenance & Repair of Containers, Chassis, and Refrigerated Containers
  • Assist the Manager, M&R work group in setting goals and objectives for the operation
  • Direct the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly statistics for productivity and other operational and financial reports
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of the business, while achieving operational and financial goals and objectives
  • Analyze performance statistics and trends to identify areas for improvement
  • Ensure good communication throughout the workgroup and their group interactions to ensure smooth operations
  • Provide reliable service to customers, ensuring timely turnaround of damaged equipment
  • Monitor productivity levels to ensure an efficient operation and provide a weekly detailed labor production recap report
  • Ensure safety, health, and environmental standards are met throughout the operation
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and review accidents/injuries with the management team
  • Ensure M&R staff is familiar with company policies, employment and labor law, collective bargaining agreements, and procedures for implementing and maintaining consistent applications
  • Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all equipment and submit required reports to meet customer requirements
  • Ensure all administrative procedures and reports are completed accurately and submitted on time
  • Participate in customer audits conducted at the site level
  • Review and measure daily productivity forms received from mechanics for accuracy
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of Intermodal M&R Equipment experience within the logistics/transportation industry in a managerial capacity, with significant labor relations experience
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation and financial applications, including basic accounting, statistics, problem solving, goal setting, and business applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related discipline
  • Principles of terminal and stevedore operations
  • Thorough knowledge of M&R Equipment repair criteria required by each customer
  • Management of M&R operation, including technical mechanical expertise and labor management
  • Thorough knowledge of union contracts
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and accident prevention
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Sound business judgment to set direction and establish priorities
