The Retail Operations Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the store team to drive revenue through the effective management of donated goods within the retail environment.

This position assists in optimizing the daily workflow of merchandise rotation to ensure a dynamic shopping experience.

The Assistant Manager collaborates with the Store Manager to operate a high-traffic retail outlet, aligning with the mission of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana.


  • Guides, supervises, and inspires store personnel to achieve production and rotation targets.
  • Facilitates staffing needs by mentoring, training, and developing the retail team.
  • Ensures safety and proper crowd management within the retail space.
  • Efficiently rotates tables of merchandise according to established guidelines.
  • Handles store opening and closing procedures, including cash register balancing and end-of-day processes.
  • Maintains a clean and hazard-free environment through regular monitoring and cleaning efforts.
  • Performs all roles within the store, including cash handling, merchandise rotation, cleaning, and customer service.
  • Communicates daily operational needs with relevant departments and management.
  • Assists in employee scheduling to ensure adequate store coverage.
  • Conducts daily store walkthroughs, team huddles, and regular staff meetings.
  • Understands production, revenue, and expense targets, working diligently to meet or exceed these goals.
Skills and Qualifications:

1. Ability to meet budgetary goals and implement contingency plans as necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to promote Goodwill and articulate its mission to the community.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with store staff while motivating them to excel.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating clearly in English.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, with potential for extended hours.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.
  • Capability to engage in prolonged standing, walking, and bending.
  • Aptitude for thriving in a fast-paced work environment with occasional high-stress situations.
Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

  • At least two years of experience in retail management is preferred.
  • Experience in leading teams in retail sales, production, manufacturing, or assembly is advantageous.
  • Must maintain minimum liability automobile insurance as required by state regulations.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain current vehicle registration and inspection.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and other relevant software.
Working Conditions:

This role involves frequent physical activity, movement within a conditioned indoor environment, occasional exposure to outdoor conditions, and potential travel within the service area.
