Job Summary

The City of Fontana is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to lead the Accounting Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating the activities of the general accounting operations, as well as coordinating accounting activities with other divisions and departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts to ensure the City's financial stability and growth.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee the preparation, examination, and verification of financial documents and reports, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Supervision and Training: Direct, oversee, and participate in the development of the Accounting Division's work plan, assign work activities, projects, and programs, and monitor work flow.
  • Financial Systems and Technology: Coordinate the automated accounting systems within the Accounting Division, recommend system enhancements, and assist other departments with automated systems interface.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that work carried out in the Division complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and other relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a closely related field, MBA/MPA or CPA preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in professional governmental accounting, including three years of local California agency experience and some supervisory responsibility.
  • Skills: Advanced accounting principles, financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, and supervisory skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Leading the Annual Financial Audit: One (1) year or more of experience in leading the annual financial audit.
  • Experience in Leading Payroll: One (1) year or more of experience in leading payroll.
Working Conditions

The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.
