Job Overview

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Global Trade Operations and is integral to the import operations team, focusing on the establishment and maintenance of compliance standards for BD's import activities. The position demands a robust understanding of import brokerage management and a comprehensive grasp of the requirements set forth by CBP and other regulatory bodies regarding global trade imports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee import transactions to guarantee timely and compliant delivery of products and materials to BD facilities and client locations.
  • Classify imported goods according to HTS codes in accordance with US Customs regulations.
  • Ensure accurate classification of imported goods with relevant Partner Government Agency (PGA) data based on specific import scenarios, including FDA, USDA, and EPA.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather necessary product details for HTS classification and required PGA data.
  • Evaluate the accuracy of commercial invoices to align with US Customs standards and resolve any discrepancies with the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provide clear clearance instructions to customs brokers.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, brokers, and government agencies to facilitate the release of shipments held by authorities.
  • Guide shippers and vendors on BD's import procedures, ensuring proper documentation and communication practices.
  • Manage import EDI transactions and troubleshoot any system-related issues.
  • Monitor broker performance and address any operational challenges.
  • Ensure brokers adhere to BD's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Update and maintain BD's broker import SOP in response to regulatory changes.
  • Oversee the ISF filing process and broker performance.
  • Conduct audits of import entries to verify the accuracy and compliance of broker filings.
  • Interpret and provide guidance on government import regulations to support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments, including Global Transportation, Procurement, and Regulatory, to ensure all import compliance requirements are fulfilled.
  • Identify and standardize import processes across BD business units.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in global trade import customs brokerage and compliance management.
  • In-depth knowledge of managing import brokerage activities and understanding of CBP and other governmental requirements for US imports.
  • Experience with HTS classification is essential.
  • A customs broker license is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP/GTS is advantageous.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external partners.
  • Strong work ethic and responsiveness to inquiries.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • A collaborative team player capable of influencing without direct authority.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Customs broker license is preferred.
