Job Summary

The California Highway Patrol is seeking a highly skilled Accountant I to join our team. As a key member of our payroll unit, you will be responsible for handling complex accounting duties, including salary advance and collection. This role requires a strong understanding of California Labor Code and the ability to process large volumes of payroll warrants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process over 20,000 payroll warrants per month, including master-payroll, overtime, and shift differential
  • Prepare and distribute various types of payroll warrants, including garnishment and annual leave
  • Liaise with Human Resources Section, control agencies, and departmental employees on payroll distribution issues
  • Analyze payroll distribution procedures and make recommendations for improvements
  • Assist with auditing, calculating, and coding of cash transmittals
  • Prepare memos, letters, and reports for payroll and garnishment overpayments
  • Compile and research payment records, and follow up on collection efforts

Requirements

  • Background Investigation clearance prior to hire
  • Minimum Qualifications verified prior to appointment
  • Unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review
