Position Overview:

The role of a Specialized Education Advisor involves providing expert guidance and support to educational institutions and families regarding the unique needs of students with disabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Master's Degree in Education with a specialization in Special Education is required.
  • Licensure: Certification as a Consultant as mandated by the appropriate educational board.
  • Experience: A minimum of four years of successful teaching experience, including at least two years dedicated to special education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in collaborative consultations with educators and parents to address the emotional, academic, cognitive, behavioral, and vocational needs of students.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule for consultations aimed at enhancing student behavior and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Work alongside school staff to develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based interventions that foster a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Design and oversee Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention strategies, including data collection and parent engagement for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Provide coaching and modeling for school personnel in the development and execution of behavior management plans.
  • Deliver short-term individual and group interventions as appropriate, within the scope of expertise.
  • Document services provided to each student and utilize valid assessment methods to track student progress.
  • Conduct assessments necessary for creating individual or systemic interventions and determining eligibility for special education services.
  • Facilitate the problem-solving process and conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments, developing Behavioral Intervention Plans as needed.
  • Support special education teachers in the IEP development and monitoring process.
  • Assist schools with ongoing technical support and progress monitoring towards measurable goals.
  • Participate in the design and interpretation of educational research.
  • Stay informed on current research and professional practices in the field of special education.
  • Provide training and in-service education on behavior and mental health to school staff, families, and community organizations.
  • Act as a liaison to access specialized resources and services within the educational and community landscape.
  • Encourage family involvement in the IEP process and collaborate with IEP teams for reevaluations.
  • Assist in transitional planning for students with unique learning needs.
  • Provide crisis support to districts when necessary.
