This role is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) position, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months or transition to a permanent role.

If you hold permanent status and have successfully completed probation, you possess mandatory reinstatement rights to your previous position/classification at the conclusion of this LT appointment. If you lack prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service. During this 12-month limited-term assignment, you may be eligible for health, dental, and vision benefits, as well as accruing monthly leave credits and earning State Service.

The State Air Resources Board is in search of a dedicated, detail-oriented, and technically proficient individual with strong communication abilities to join the Compliance Support Section of the Transportation and Clean Technology Branch as an Air Resources Technician II. The selected candidate will be part of a proactive team focused on formulating and executing regulatory strategies and emission control initiatives aimed at minimizing harmful criteria and greenhouse gas emissions from medium and heavy-duty on-road mobile sources. This includes contributing to the enforcement of zero-emission regulations such as the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation and the Advanced Clean Fleets.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist Air Pollution Specialists and Air Resources Engineers by responding to technical inquiries and daily communications to support the public with various medium and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicle programs.
  2. Review fleet surveys and registration databases to assess and ensure fleet compliance.
  3. Compile and analyze emissions data to inform regulatory strategies.
  4. Evaluate the availability and practicality of advanced medium and heavy-duty vehicle propulsion technologies aimed at emission reduction.
  5. Estimate the costs and benefits related to the operation and maintenance of advanced zero-emission technologies.
  6. Design, maintain, and update the program website to ensure accessibility and user-friendliness.
  7. Prepare reports, factsheets, and other necessary correspondence.
  8. Coordinate and engage in public workshops, meetings, and other outreach events.
  9. Perform additional duties as required, including administrative support to the manager and the section.

Work Environment

Positions at the State Air Resources Board may qualify for telework, with in-person attendance based on operational needs, as per Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. Employees residing outside California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the designated headquarters location at their own expense.
